Welcome to ShimmerStitch.com!
When your kit arrives, you'll find ALL the necessary supplies needed to complete your piece of art. If your canvas has any creases in it from shipping, you can place a few heavy books on top to flatten it out.
All the colored diamonds are in separate bags that are labeled with a number. That number corresponds to a specific symbol on the canvas. This symbol is typically printed on both the canvas and the inventory sheet that comes with your kit. You will just need to match the corresponding color of diamonds to the symbols and place them on the canvas where it tells you to. *If you are missing any diamond drills, please email us: support@shimmerstitch.com for replacements.
To start working, peel back a small section of the plastic covering to work on at one time. Do not remove the entire covering or you'll find that things start sticking to the canvas and it will get dirty. I like to work on a small section at a time, one color at at time. Remember to keep the canvas covered when you aren't working on it so it stays sticky and clean.
Pour a small amount of diamonds in the provided tray. If you hold it at a slight angle and gently shake it back and forth the diamonds will settle right side up so they are facing the correct way to pick them up with the included pen and place them on the canvas.
The pink rectangle that comes with your kit is the wax. Peel back the clear plastic on the wax and push the end of the pen into it to fill it with wax. Now you can pick up the diamonds easily since they will stick to the pen.
When the pen seems like it doesn't pick up the diamonds well anymore, just add a little bit more wax. If you prefer, you can grab some blue tack reusable adhesive putty from a craft store if you do not like the pink wax.
There is a pair of tweezers included in your kit too. Some like to use this to place diamonds instead of the pen. I prefer just to use it to pick up misplaced diamonds but it's up to you how you want to use them.
Continue your painting, a small section at a time, until it is complete. Depending on which hand is your dominant hand, you may prefer to start at a different side. Find out what feels best to you and which side is easiest to start with. (I'm right handed so I prefer to start at the top left corner.)
When your painting is complete, you can cut off the excess canvas or cover it with washi tape. Leave the painting overnight with a few heavy books on top to help the diamonds set in place securely. Then it's ready to be framed!
I like to store my any remaining drills in a bag or container with the DMC number on it in case I need it for future paintings.
It's always a good idea to seal your painting with Mod Podge once it is complete and before it is framed. Mod Podge dries clear and will seal your diamonds in place nicely. There's even a spray version of it which works really nicely. Just a thin layer is needed.
